A City Rich with History

The first settlers didn’t make Northville their home until 1825. Many settlers arrived that year from the state of New York, but most of the settlers came from the community of Plymouth. Northville was given its name due to its northern location to the city closest…Plymouth. John Miller built the first mill in Plymouth Township which Northville was a part of for over 70 years. The mill was built around 1828 in the same location where Historical Mill Race Village is now located.

Northville flourished during the Victorian era. One look at the architecture tells a story of days gone by where Queen Anne style homes graced the streets of this historical town. Each September the town celebrates their Victorian heritage with a Victorians Festival.

When Henry Ford purchased a factory in Northville in 1919, this opened the doors providing jobs for many of the towns’ people. The factory was known as the North Valve plant and provided valves for nearly every Ford, Mercury, and Lincoln vehicle until 1981.
