The township has a land area of 27.6 square miles with 2.3 square miles or 7.61 percent being water. Commerce Township continues to thrive as the median age is 36. Today’sTownship of Commerce is quite different as cottages have become permanent homes and the population continues to grow. The attraction of small lakes and added golf courses have been a contributing factor to the town’s growth.

Walled Lake Consolidated Schools and Huron Valley Schools are the two school districts within Commerce Township. Walled Lake has 14 elementary schools, four middle schools, and three high schools. An alternative school is available and serves over 15,000 students. The Huron Valley school district is known for a stellar field and track team that has won state championship for two years in a row. This district is among the highest ranked schools in academics in the state of Michigan.
